TO UNDERSTAND AND COMPARETHE IDENTITY FORMATION PROCESS IN ADOLESCENTSON THE BASIS OF GENDER AND AGE THROUGH JAMES MARCIAS MODEL OF IDENTITY STATUSES

The purpose of the study was to investigate Marcias ego identity paradigm in Indian adolescent population.The examined role age and gender on process Identity formation. A representative sample 161 adolescents(girls boys) collected across three different groups 13-15, 15-17 17-19 years. Ego Process Questionnaire (EIPQ) used measure participants level Exploration Commitment accordingly classify them into one four Statuses: Achievement, Moratorium, Foreclosure, Diffusion identity.The results indicated that most adolescents todays times are realistic more informed about their lives decisions. Thus, mean scores for both girls (70.24) boys were high Achievement. Also, genders found be equally active exploration commitment domains.The T- comparison between statuses. values non- significant indicating an equal growth genders.
